Introducing Spock, the people search engine

spock logoTill now I have been writing about my favorite people, who they are, what they like and what they do. But this time, I'm introducing another fine way to do People Search, a nice little site called Spock.

When I first heard the name, it reminded me of Lt. Commander Spock from the USS Enterprise, and I was glad to discover that they are not ruining his name. A nice clean Google like plain search interface helps everyone perform a people search for their friends, colleagues or even random persons they would wish to locate.

Whats the magic? Well, All those social networking sites that you sign up for, and all those blog you write, Spock's super cool engine uses data from many such sources and builds up your whereabouts. It might sound creepy at first, but for me, it starts another new round of ego-surfing. So what are you waiting for, why not head right over and do a people search with Spock, I'm sure it'll surprise you.

Typo

Thakkar -Hemant Kadegaonkar

Hemant is one of the 13 people who will be passing out in Visual Communication batch of 2004 from IDC,IIT Bombay. I've seen hemant working endlessly with undiluted concentration on his comp at one corner of Maya Lab, I have never disturbed him like I do others, because working in Black and white and on fonts and layouts has never interested me. After two years of IDC, when now I am finally used to the Gautam's choice of Indian Classical Music and my english has adopted a slight South Indian accent, I have to admit I have started admiring the patience which goes behind things like font designing. I regret that now that I have started getting to know him, he is leaving IIT.

Hemant is best identified with his immense knowledge of typography, his regular gear of flouroscent T-shirts (surprisingly, they look good on him at all times), and his own unique gaze of concentration which is so obvious in the pic above. While working, his face will go into this look regularly. In these moments, he'll stare into his own ethereal universe, while he untangles the web which is holding him back, at the end of which a glow comes on his face marking the beginning of a solution. This photo was taken during the batch treat when the PD presentations got over, and Hemant is probably imagining his far-distant future, maybe his dream home, his wife or the names of his future kids :D. Just kidding, hemant first love is his compositions and I'll bet that one of them is occupying his mind at this time too.. He is looking forward to a future of being a Typographer and I wish him all the luck..

Nostalgia..

DPS Bhilai, class of 1999

This one goes out for innocence lost, a time when the solution to the questions, the latest in Raj comics, were more important to us than the size of breasts of the females around us. Undoubtedly I enjoyed a lot during my stay here at IIT, but still school friends are a part of my memory which I still remember fondly. I remember all those pretty girls whom we used to hate, the annual day we organised, of the times when couple of us were together from morning 4:00 am to evening 8:00 as a result of School and tutions clubbed together.

In the above pic, you can see (from right), Pranjal Chatterjee (who is doing CA), Vikas Chandra Sahu (who has become more extrovert and turned into Vicky Dada after joining BIT), Gautam "gautai dada" Gupta (did Civil from MNR, and now placed in ... I forgot), Deepayan Chakraborty (standing, he was with me here at IIT and is now at UCSD), Atul Sharma (my classmate since Class 1, joined GSITS in Indore and I think is looking for Jobs), Me, the Handsome Himanshu Bhalla (the most ambitious man I know, he joined BHU ceramics, changed branch to Comp. Sci., did PT in Singapore, topped the class, joined Tata Elexsi and shifted to Reliance Infocomm., this fellow is going ahead at a fast pace and is not stopping at all), Shashwat Lakhanpal (sportsperson, a friend whom I miss here at IIT most, joined REC, and now placed in Infosys) and Vishwajeet Singh Gupta (current whereabouts - unknown). The pic was taken on our last annual picnic at some DAM, near Bhilai.. there is soo much I am forgetting about my past these days.

I miss U guys!

Minnie Mouse

Thakkar - Dipti

Well, Dipti, persistance finally paid off.. While you were bugging everyday for putting up the snap, I also had to find something which will show your true self. Whenever I see dipti, she reminds me of a Bugs Bunny trapped in a Minnie Mouse body! Imagine that, and you get Dipti. For the sake of convenience, I have put up this pic which was taken about the same time as the one below, that is, Holi this year. She did her Graduation from JJ and after IDC, whether I say it or not, She *IS* going to rock the world. So better watch out...

The Axe Effect.

Gautam Karnik Axe Effect

Gautam Karnik, the skinny little guy in middle, is again a senior IDCian and is your Ideal Dr. Jekyll. By day, or on most days, Gautam is your simple kind hearted helping fellow, the saint, who will come, work with determination and go back! But then, the Mr. Hyde part takes over and he'll flirt with any dame around, while walking back he'll ask about the female who just crossed by ;) and his remark on H11 valfi was "Wow, I never knew there were these many of them around!"

Also known for his GJ's (Gautam Jokes), he recently joined the 30's club two weeks ago. The above snap, taken at Holi this year, shows Gautam in his full glory where everyone posed for this AXE effect snap taken. Every guy does gets his lucky day!

At 30, I wish him more such days before he gets married, or before his parents see this picture :D

PS. Deepti, you are up next, this time I promise... check this place tommorow!
